Why We're Giving Away Unlimited Analytics (And What We Learned)
April 8, 2026 · Gurulu Team
When we tell people that Gurulu offers unlimited analytics events for free, the first question is always the same: "What is the catch?" There is no catch, but there is a strategy. Here is how we think about it.
The Problem With Per-Event Pricing
Most analytics platforms charge per event, per MTU (monthly tracked user), or per session. This creates a perverse incentive: the more data you collect, the more you pay. Teams end up sampling, dropping low-priority events, or avoiding instrumentation altogether. The result is incomplete data and worse decisions.
We saw this firsthand across dozens of teams. The analytics tool was supposed to answer questions, but the pricing model meant half the questions could not be answered because the data was never collected.
Why Free Works for Us
Gurulu is an event-based pricing platform at its core, but during the MVP phase we have chosen to remove all limits. This is not charity -- it is a deliberate growth strategy with three pillars.
First, data density drives AI quality. Our AI features -- natural language queries, anomaly detection, auto-discovery -- get better with more data. Free unlimited events means richer training signal for every customer.
Second, switching costs are real. Analytics is sticky. Once your team builds dashboards, sets up funnels, and integrates the CRM, moving to another platform is painful. We would rather earn that lock-in through value than through contracts.
Third, the cost curve is in our favor. Modern columnar storage and serverless compute mean the marginal cost of ingesting an event is approaching zero. We built Gurulu on infrastructure that scales efficiently, so unlimited free is economically viable.
What We Plan for the Future
When paid tiers arrive, they will gate advanced features: custom AI model training, dedicated infrastructure, SLA guarantees, SAML SSO, and premium integrations. The core analytics, error tracking, and CRM will remain generous on the free tier.
Early adopters who join during the MVP phase will receive permanent discounts on any future paid plan. We believe in rewarding the people who bet on us early.
What We Learned
Building in public taught us that transparency beats marketing. Users trust products that explain their business model honestly. If you are wondering whether Gurulu is too good to be true -- now you know exactly why it works and where the revenue will come from.
